Professor Dermot Hodson
(Principal Investigator)
Dermot Hodson is Professor of Political Economy and Digital Technologies at Loughborough University London. He previously worked as Professor of Political Economy and Birkbeck College and as an economist at the European Commission’s DG for Economic and Financial Affairs and has taught at the LSE and held visiting positions at the College of Europe in Natolin, the University of Agder in Kristiansand and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Bruges.
His books include Governing the Euro Area in Good Times and Bad (Oxford University Press, 2011), The New Intergovernmentalism: States and Supranational Actors in the Post-Maastricht Era (with Chris Bickerton and Uwe Puetter, Oxford University Press, 2015), The Transformation of EU Treaty Making: The Rise of Parliaments, Referendums and Courts Since 1950 (with Imelda Maher, Cambridge University Press, 2018) and the Institutions of the European Union (with Uwe Puetter and Sabine Saurugger, Oxford University Press, 2021).
Professor David Howarth
(Principal Investigator)
David Howarth has been a Professor at the University of Luxembourg since 2012. He was previously a Jean Monnet Chair at the University of Edinburgh where he also ran a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. Professor Howarth is (since 2015) one of three editors of the Routledge / UACES book series on Contemporary European Studies, one of the leading series focused on European Union affairs. Professor Howarth is a founding member of the University of Luxembourg’s Robert Schuman Initiative, since 2016 a leading interdisciplinary centre for study of European Union affairs and recognized and funded twice by the EU Commission as a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence.
His books include The Political Economy of European Banking Union (with Lucia Quaglia, Oxford University Press, 2016), Regional Development Banks in the World Economy (with Judith Clifton and Daniel Fuentes, Oxford University Press, 2021) and Economic and Monetary Union at Twenty: A Stocktaking of a Tumultuous Second Decade (with Amy Verdun, Routledge, 2021).
Dr Iacopo Mugnai
(Postdoctoral Research Associate)
Iacopo Mugnai is Postdoctoral Research Associate at Loughborough University London. An expert on European economic governance, he recently completed a PhD at the University of Warwick on the role of ideas within the European Central Bank. His research has been published in Comparative European Politics.
Dr Lukas Spielberger
(Postdoctoral research associate)
Lukas Spielberger is Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Luxembourg. He is currently finalising a PhD at the University of Leiden on central bank cooperation and swap arrangements. His research has been published in the Journal of European Public Policy and Comparative European Politics.
